This gorgeous space themed board book was a no brainer to pick up for my daughters space themed nursery. I appreciate the Hello World! series for their approach to simplifying big concepts into easy to take in pieces.

I’m a huge fan of space, so I was excited to stumble onto this little gem. The art is beautiful and fun and colorful and my daughter loves it! Each page is informational and educational in a truly fun and beautiful way. I love the idea of simplifying big concepts for children, helping them understand the world around them and generally this fits the bill perfectly. It’s an easy read, with interesting facts that as my daughter gets older will be able to appreciate.
Unfortunately it’s also slightly outdated. Admittedly it took me a second reading to realize Pluto was included (as a Dwarf Planet) but not Eris which is more mass. Saturn is also the only planet shown and listed with rings, and a page shows shared orbits.
Of course the art is still beautiful and the board pages are nice and thick. I don’t think the couple missing facts are deal-breakers at all. Instead I think as my daughter gets older it would simply be a discussion about how fast technology, advancement and our knowledge of space changes! It will be a fun way to get her involved in getting updated information!
Would I recommend: I would! Like I said, a couple outdated points don’t ruin the intent of the book and of course the beautiful art. Just simply acknowledge that things change and use it as a starting point to learn WHAT has changed since publication!

I am going to have to keep this book in mind for my son as he gets older (he is only 2). I love introducing children’s books that teach new concepts and make them engaging and exciting!
